The new UIL redistricting for the 2026–2028 seasons brings significant changes to Laredo high schools, particularly for those in District 30-6A and those facing a shift in their Class 5A divisional matchups.
Class 6A Changes: District 30-6A
Laredo’s largest programs (Alexander, LBJ, United, and United South) remain in District 30-6A.
However, the composition of the district has shifted: New Additions, San Antonio Southwest, and San Antonio Southwest Legacy have moved up from Class 5A to join the Laredo schools.
Departures: Castroville Medina Valley is no longer in the district, having moved down to Class 5A.
Returning Opponents: The Laredo schools will continue to face Del Rio and Eagle Pass.
Class 5A Changes: LISD Schools
For Laredo’s Class 5A programs, the realignment alters both district size and playoff pathways:
District 14-5A (Division I): Laredo Martin Tigers and the J.W. Nixon Mustangs are now part of an eight-team district. New Opponents: They will face Castroville Medina Valley, Eagle Pass C.C. Winn, Northside Jay, San Antonio MacArthur, San Antonio Southside, and South San Antonio.
Playoff Impact: The district has shrunk from 9 to 8 teams, allowing for greater flexibility in non-district scheduling. In the first round of the playoffs, these schools are slated to face teams from District 13-5A Division I (Austin/Central Texas area).
District 16-5A (Division II): Laredo Cigarroa Toros will face first-round playoff matchups against a district heavy with Coastal Bend and Valley teams, including Gregory-Portland, Mercedes, and Corpus Christi Ray.

The City of Laredo had the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Buena Vista Sports Complex.
