“State”, Laredo Style. As of April 19, 2026, several Laredo high school student-athletes have already competed in or qualified for state championships for the 2025-2026 academic year.
While spring sports like track and field, baseball, and softball are currently at the regional stage, standout “State” achievements have been recorded in girls' golf, powerlifting, swimming, and indoor track.

2026 State Qualifiers and Champions Sergio "Javi" Martinez (Martin HS): Won the state title in the Unequipped Super Heavyweight Class at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association (THSPA) State Meet in Abilene on April 14, 2026. He finished with a combined total lift of 1,570 pounds.
Alyssa Esparza (Laredo): Made history as the first female golfer from Laredo public schools to qualify for the UIL State Golf Tournament.
Rickey Carson (Alexander HS): Represented Laredo at the 2026 Texas High School Indoor Championship at Texas A&M, placing eighth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.13s) and ninth in the long jump.
Esteban Avena (Alexander HS): Competed in the 2026 Texas High School Indoor Championship in track events.
Israel Esparza (Nixon HS): Competed in the 2026 Texas High School Indoor Championship in track events.
2026 Swimming and Diving Laredo State Qualifiers
The following athletes from Laredo Alexander High School represented Laredo at the state level:
Anali Gutierrez (Junior): Qualified in two individual events after winning the regional championship in the 200-yard individual medleyand placing second in the 100-yard butterfly.
Alexa Marion Hinojos: Qualified for the state meet alongside her teammates.
Analucia Diaz Adame: Advanced to state in the diving competition.
Avery Adrian: Advanced to state in the divingcompetition.
2026 United High School State Qualifier
Daniela Aleman (Sophomore): Qualified for the state meet in the 100-yard backstroke.
Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA) All-State team in March 2026. 2025 TSWA All-State Selections These players were recognized for their performance during the 2025 season:
Colt Lozano (United): Second-team honors at Wide Receiver. He set Laredo single-season records with 1,859 yards and 27 touchdowns.
Rola San Miguel (United): Third-team honors as a Utility player.
Jorge Luna (United): Honorable Mention at Quarterback. He threw for 3,907 yards and 43 touchdowns during his senior year.
