Sophia Sandoval is a standout track and cross-country runner at J.W. Nixon High School in Laredo, Texas, currently in her senior year (Class of 2026). She has committed to continuing her athletic career at Tarleton State University, an NCAA Division I program.
Sandoval is one of the most decorated distance runners in The Story J W Nixon High School history, a well-accomplished athlete known for breaking long-standing records and consistently qualifying for state-level competitions. She was a Texas UIL 5A State Qualifier in the 3200-meter run as a sophomore (2024). She placed 8th at the UIL State meet in Austin, Texas that year.
Sophia sets a new J W Nixon Mustang school record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:14.46, breaking a record that had stood since 1983. She is now holding the Multiple-time District and Area Champion titles in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m events. As a cross-country athlete, Sophia is a two-time UIL state qualifier. She ranks among the top four fastest girls in program history with a personal best of 18:33.6.

Beyond athletics, Sophia maintains a high standard in her academic and community life. She is a straight-A student with a 4.00 GPA, and at J. W. Nixon High School, is part of the "Gifted and Talented."
She is an active member of 4H, where she raises and shows sheep. She has notably won the Grand Champion Market Lamb title at the Laredo Fair and at regional events. She is currently enrolled in the Business, Industry, and Professional Services (BIPS) magnet program at Nixon.
Sophia Quest is to return to the 2026 Texas UIL State Track & Field Championships in her senior year continues this spring, and, having started the 2026 Track season in setting records, well, she is well on her way to reaching her goal.
