Sophia Trevino is a standout senior volleyball player from Laredo Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ) High School. A top academically member of the Class of 2026, she has primarily played as a Libero and Defensive Specialist (DS) for the Lady Wolves.

Sophia played varsity for four years at Laredo Johnson, where she was one of the best servers in the district, with her wicked, super-English delivery that would score aces and rattle the volleyball teams would adjust their efforts and try not to send it to wherever she was on the back line.

Laredo Johnson would play her on the back line after her serve, and her ability to reach the slams into the back line was noticed by many around the volleyball teams she would face.

Despite not being allowed to be the Libero both her Junior and Senior year, she took it upon herself each time she was in the back line to act as the second Libero and find a way to get the digs and bump correctly, allowing the setters and the spikers to do their job.

Covered by so many of her matches and by so many other observers, she was seen as having the talent to play volleyball at a high level, and colleges did notice and were very aware of her abilities. Sophia had over 8 offers from colleges to play at the next level.

On March 28, 2026, Sofia Trevino officially signed her Letter of Intent to play collegiate volleyball at Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) in Goodwell, Oklahoma. Sophia is entering OPSU as a Junior, having earned two years of college prep at Laredo College while at Laredo Johnson.

She committed alongside her longtime teammate and lifelong friend, Marielle Gonzalez, also from Laredo Johnson. The signing was made possible by Ramiro Ortiz, owner of LAC, who provided the location, and the ceremony drew over 50 people. Ramiro also has a daughter, Valeria "VAL" Ortiz, who plays NCAA Division I volleyball at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Her perseverance through the four years of high school volleyball is a testament to never giving up on your dreams of playing college sports, no matter what is thrown at you. Sophia joins the 3 percent of high school athletes in the United States of America who reach the college athletic level.

She will now work on her lifelong quest to become a veterinarian, and she has chosen a great university to do so. That is something she worked on her own during high school by setting up a DAY CARE for Pets for families who needed a haven to leave their animals. She took on responsibility as early as her first year of high school, became an entrepreneur in her first year, and watched her business grow.

Her Glam: resilient efforts, no matter what life brought her, her volleyball work ethic, as well as working out wherever she could three to four times a week, have paid off, and she handled it with seriousness and maturity, and with "COINS" in her pocket from her business, set her apart from others her age.

Sophia Trevino, a true-blue volleyball player, will get a chance to play in the college ranks.
